"Women's Rights"

Q: Dear Imam Mecca-Cola,

I am curious: I am a woman from a very conservative and patriarchal part of the Islamic world. How do I promote women's rights, activism and the like, without offending the status quo? Many men here beat their wives, and my husband does, too, but there's simply no visible way out. I would be grateful for any help.

Alhamdulillah, sister, there are many opportunities for you to be doing things. Firstly, if your husband is beating you, he should not have to FIND a reason to beat you. Rather, you should be GIVING him reasons to beat you. This is real woman's activism and rights. It shows that you're the two steps ahead of him. Remember, this opinion is the in line with the rulings from the part of the world that is yours.
